Splinteredones's Blog Hosts November Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse

First, an update for all of you wonderful friends who expressed concern over my bout with pneumonia.  I don't go back to the doctor for a check-up until December 6.  I have had a quiet week surrounding Thanksgiving with my sweet husband taking care of me.  He even cooked his own turkey breast roast for Thanksgiving Day.  It was a simple roast that came with its own cooking pan.  All he had to do was put it in the oven for a little over an hour.  I had a pan of cornbread dressing that I had made and put in the freezer several months ago.  All I had to do was defrost it and put a serving into the microwave to warm it up.  Open a can of his favorite cranberry sauce and a few veggies and he was happy.  I had some fake chicken (I am a vegetarian.), some of my cornbread dressing and some freshly made coleslaw and I had a great meal too.  We both missed the family that we usually have surrounding us at our house on Thanksgiving Day.  Instead they all met at Daniel's mother's house in Louisiana.

I lost 12 pounds from not having an appetite over a week and a half.  I haven't been on the scales recently but have probably gained most of it back since my appetite came back this week.  My energy levels are much better and most importantly because of the breathing treatments that I have been doing, my breathing is back to normal.  I still have a cough, sinus drainage and fluid behind my ear drums.  I have 5 more days of breathing treatments to do.

Thank you all for your prayers and healing energy that you have sent my way.  I love and appreciate you all.

Splinty over at Splinteredones's Blog is hosting the November Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse.  I hope you will join me in going to her blog and reading all of the submissions for this month's Carnival Against Child Abuse.  I have 3 submissions in the Carnival myself.  I saw some new submitters this month that I am looking forward to meeting through the sharing of their stories.  Here is the link:

Such good news.

Now a small lecture from someone who has had pneumonia twice in my life.

Do not jump back in the pool and get busy right away.

The critical time is recovery. Take it easy for a few weeks.

Please.

Corinne, thank you so much for expressing your concern and I will take heed of your advice. Everyone that has told me that they have had pneumonia have said the same thing - to take time and not get back to being busy too soon. I am also treating my immune system to make it stronger with herbs, vitamins and minerals that I know are good for the immune system. I am determined to not get this again.

Madhavjgd, thank you so much for the blessings. I believe as you do that spiritual practices and positive energy can certainly work in our healing efforts as well as common sense and following doctor's orders.

Hope you are fully recovered from your typhoid. That can be as deadly as pneumonia. Thankfully neither of us had these illnesses 100 years ago. Not many people survive major illnesses 100 years ago.

Colleen, thank you. I just have to be patient as my energy comes back so as to not do too much too fast.

Patiricia; I sure hope you are mending well; I haven't seen you much in recent days...and it seems like forever almost. I have to second the advice to take it slow...I thought I was better following pneumonia but it seemed to weigh me down for weeks. Sending more healing thoughts on the wings of eagles your way, my friend.

Susan, thank you. I went last Tuesday for chest xrays and a blood test and the pneumonia is gone. Two days before my husband started sneezing and sniffling and got a cough and sore throat.

Two hours after my doctor's appointment, I started sneezing. I have been coughing worse than I did with the pneumonia. The good thing is that I can breathe. With the pneumonia, I could only take a half breath for 3 weeks. Tomorrow, Sunday will be the fifth week since I woke up with a cough and weight on my chest.

My son and daughter-in-law were just here to wish me a Happy Birthday. My son asked what my plans were for the day and I told him it depends upon how much I am coughing today as to whether I will even try to go out with my husband for my birthday dinner.

Susan, Twitter will only let me on about once every three days. Otherwise it tells me it is overcapacity. I reported it but haven't heard back from their support team. That is on the days that I have felt well enough to sit at the computer.

Patricia, It still sounds like you don't have that "sick" bug out of your body. Continue to rest and make sure the doctor watches your lungs so you don't get pneumonia back again. Will pray for your healing.

Hold Fast, you are right. I have felt a lot better today. Thank you for your prayers.

I'm sorry you had the pneumonia, but I'm glad you took good care of yourself. I had pneumonia once, but I was so busy and took such poor care of myself back then that I didn't even realize I was so sick until I tried to get out of bed one morning and just could not get up anymore. My lungs were so full and inflamed that my back was in severe pain and having no more of my nonsense and I literally couldn't even sit up in bed. My mother had to come pry me out of there and take me to the hospital.

I hope you can ditch that cold, too. Be really, really nice to yourself. I wish you well.

Anonymous, thank you so much for your concern. I am definitely on the mend. The days are getting better with hardly any coughing. Not every night, but some nights I am still running a low grade temp. and still have quite a lot of coughing going on. I have two different strong cough medicines that don't seem to be helping much at night. Cough drops seem to be better than the cough drops. I hope to have this completely gone by Christmas. In some ways the cold has been worse than the pneumonia.

Part of my healing process has been to learn to pay attention to what my body is telling me. For many years I ignored when I was getting sick until I was really sick then I would go to the doctor and have to take medicines for much longer periods of time to get well. I don't do that any more.

Part of healing from incest, for me, includes paying attention to the symptoms, seeing what and feeling what is happening with my body and my emotions rather than waiting until the illness or the feelings are totally in control.

Oh gosh...I didn't realize that you were ill. I really hope that you'd fully recover before Christmas, in just a few days' time.

May you and your loved ones have a blessed celebration. I wish you great health, joy and peace throughout this period!

With best wishes,
Evelyn

Evelyn, a doctor's visit last Tuesday showed that the pneumonia was gone. Then I got a cold from my husband and that is mostly gone except for sniffles and an occasional cough. Energy levels are back close to normal. Thank you for your caring thoughts. Merry Christmas to you and your family also.

Colleen, I wish for you also a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for your love and support.
